PROSOCO Concrete Finish and Building Envelope Products Certified to SCS Indoor Advantage™ Gold Air Quality Standard

SCS Global Services (SCS), a leading independent certification body for the green building sector, today announced the certification of several concrete coating and building envelope products manufactured by PROSOCO, a leading manufacturer of high-performance construction coating and sealant products, under the SCS Indoor Advantage™ Gold standard, the industry’s toughest indoor air quality certification. These are just the latest in a long list of PROSOCO products that have earned the prestigious certification over the past six years.

The newly certified products, AirDam, FastFlash®, and Joint & Seam Filler, are part of the family of PROSOCO R-GUARD® products for preventing unwanted movement of water and air through building envelopes. Consolideck® Concrete Protector, a penetrating water, oil and stain repellent, joins the ranks of certified solutions for hardening, waterproofing, and decorating horizontal concrete surfaces.

“PROSOCO was an early sustainability leader in the paints and coatings sector, continually improving product formulations and achieving independent verification of its stringent indoor air quality performance,” said Stowe Beam, SCS Director of Environmental Certification Services.

PROSOCO’s Consolideck® line of concrete coating products were the first to achieve Indoor Advantage Gold certification in 2008. Since then, the list of certified products has grown, assuring PROSOCO customers and future building occupants that these products meet the toughest limits in North America for indoor air emissions and contribute to a healthier indoor environment in commercial buildings. To be certified to the Indoor Advantage Gold standard, products must be independently tested by SCS-approved labs following specific protocols for measuring Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) emissions. Indoor Advantage Gold ensures full compliance with the California Department of Public Health’s “Standard Method for the Testing and Evaluation of Volatile Organic Chemical Emissions from Indoor Sources.” Certification qualifies products to earn points under LEED v4, the widely adopted green building rating system developed by the US Green Building Council. Certification can also qualify products under the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) and the Green Guide for Health Care for the low-emitting materials credits.

PROSOCO’s certified products were the materials of choice at several flagship sustainable building projects. For example, Consolideck® LS® concrete treatment was used in Seattle’s Bullitt Center, which, since its completion, has received accolades as “one of the greenest commercial buildings in the world.” The newly certified FastFlash® and Joint and Seam Filler are integral components of the exterior building assembly and helped the Bullitt Center meet stringent Living Building Challenge net-zero energy performance goals.
