The Senior Technical Specialist, Europe is responsible for conducting third-party certification audits for organizations throughout the European region. This position involves evaluating sustainability practices, social and environmental performance, and governance systems. Senior Technical Specialists manage audit teams, ensure appropriate technical coverage, and mentor junior auditors. All auditing roles are expected to uphold impartiality, professionalism, and a commitment to continuous improvement, and play a critical role in ensuring the integrity, consistency, and credibility of the certification process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Auditing

  • Conduct third-party audits ensuring compliance with ISO 19011:2018 auditing principles to assess compliance
  • Lead audit teams to ensure technical expertise is present
  • Conduct interviews and perform site inspections when necessary
  • Review organizational documentation, processes, and practices
  • Complete audits by adhering to the agreed timeline, reporting deliverables, and professional requirements
  • Provide clear, actionable recommendations and issue audit reports
  • Manage the documentation, communication, and closure of audit findings
  • Identify non-conformities and areas for improvement
  • Participate in audit planning, execution, and follow-up activities
  • Participate in calibration, witness audits, and ongoing training
  • Collaborate with technical experts when additional domain knowledge is required
  • Maintain impartiality and confidentiality throughout the audit lifecycle

Client Management

  • Direct the audit process with clients
  • Ensure the clients provide data and information necessary for audit
  • Communicate in a timely and professional manner with internal staff and external clients
  • Ensure high level of customer service and client satisfaction
  • Manage a more complex/diverse portfolio of audits concurrently

Quality and Program Development

  • Deliver verification services in accordance with SCS Corporate and Program Quality requirements, in addition to participation in periodic internal and external accreditation audits
  • Manage the SCS quality management system through maintenance of competency records including training log, completed calibration activities, and up to date knowledge of SCS program and external scheme requirements

Auditor Training

  • Lead the recruitment and training of new/other staff members

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a relevant discipline (e.g., sustainability, environmental science, social sciences) or
  • 5+ years of professional experience in sustainability, social, or related fields and
  • Experience conducting audits of sustainability and/or management system standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 1400, ISO 45001, or RSPO
  • Lead Auditor training course based on ISO 9011:2018
  • Successful completion and exam pass of mandatory training courses
  • Training or experience in ISO 14001:2015 or similar, environmental/human rights/labor laws, or GHG accounting standards
  • Excellent technical writing, observation, and data management skills
  • Strong communication abilities with demonstrated abilities in critical analysis and objective evaluation
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • High ethical standards and professional integrity
  • Initiative and ability to work independently; responsive and adaptive to diverse team environment
  • Fluent in English with professional experience in verbal and written communication
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; advanced level in Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry-specific experience in sustainability, ESG, or environmental/social management
  • Knowledge of impact materiality assessments and ESG reporting frameworks (e.g., CSRD)
  • Multi-language proficiency (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, Dutch, or German)

Working Remotely
SCS is recruiting all open roles to be remote; allowing our employees the ability to work flexibly and allowing SCS as a company to diversify the experience and perspectives of our growing workforce.
